Since its founding in 1996, Cirrus Communications’ mission has been to develop and produce distinctive cinematic and television projects that are original, compelling, and that appeal to a wide audience. 


In television, Cirrus contributed to the revitalization of the television series with the audacious and refreshing La Vie, la vie (10 nominations at the Gémeaux Awards in 2002), as well as with the deeply moving drama series 2 Frères. Always pushing the envelope, Cirrus next produced Tabou, Naked Josh (Winner of 2 Gemini Awards in 2006 and 2007, 3 nominations at the Canadian Screenwriting Awards), Ciao Bella (Nomination at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival 2005, 7 nominations at the Gemini Awards in 2005), Tout sur moi (Nomination at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival in 2007, 2008, 2009, Selection at Input TV 2010), La Galère (5 nominations at the Monte-Carlo TV Festival in 2010, Nomination at the Banff TV Festival in 2010), and the TV movie Sticks and Stones (Winner of the Shaw Rocket Prize in 2009 and Winner of the Best Foreign Feature at the International Family Film Festival of Los Angeles in 2008).  The company also produces magazine and factual programming such as Outlaw Bikers, War of the Sexes (3 nominations at the Gémeaux Awards in 2005), Urbania, Chic Choc, Nikan, the miniseries Un Monde sans pitié and Jetman, a two-part television event that was broadcasted in over 165 countries.

 

On the cinema side, Cirrus truly distinguished itself with the release of Jean-Marc Vallée’s C.R.A.Z.Y., a film acclaimed by both critics and the public. The film garnered official selection status at 75 festivals and won 51 prizes. Cirrus also produced the thriller La loi du cochon, Sébastien Rose’s highly acclaimed third film The Banquet, the action-packed box-office hit Nitro, The Wild Hunt (Audience Sparky Award for Best Narrative Film at the Slamdance Film Festival 2010, Best First Canadian Feature at the Toronto International Film Festival), Hank and Mike (Official selection at Karlovy Vary Film Festival 2008, Official selection at the Palm Springs Festival 2008), 5150 Helm’s Way (5 nominations at the Genie Awards 2010, Audience Award at the Gérardmer Film Festival 2009), and the short film Love & Volts (Official selection at the Slamdance Film Festival 2010, Official selection at the Newport Beach Film Festival 2010, Official selection at Palm Springs Shortfest 2010). Cirrus is currently producing Yves Simoneau’s next feature, L’Appât.

 

Cirrus’ strength is derived from the dedicated and passionate visionaries who populate the company, namely President and Producer Josée Vallée, Factual and Coproduction Producer André Barro, Executive Producer Richard Speer, and Feature Film Producer Antonello Cozzolino. They are supported by an elite team of about fifteen employees, as well as highly talented screenwriters, directors and many other skilled collaborators. Their creativity, versatility, and strong, collaborative work ethic are at the heart of Cirrus’ success and its constant ability to renew itself.
